12/04-Driving from Columbia, MO to Raleigh, NC I noticed water towers in the distance, some from miles away. Most often they showed the town's name so you would know where you were without the map. I wish I started to take pictures on that trip, but the idea of logging H2O towers was only in its infancy. This blog came almost a year later when I realized I really enjoy taking the back road to find what neat H2O towers exist. Feel free to post a link or story about your town's local H2O tower.

Work Trip #24 - Asheville, NC - January 7-8, 2008
My first work trip for 2008 was to Asheville for the Soil and Water Conservation District meeting. Quite an interesting crowd.
On the way back I stopped to fill the state vehicle with gas in McDowell County. The DOT fueling station is right across from the McDowell community college. It has a very distinguishable blue and white standpipe that you can see from I-40.
I then headed into Old Fort to take a look at the water towers that you can see from I-40. This is the actual "old fort".
Old Fort. NC.
The water tanks are part of an old industrial area. It could really use some revitalization, as many small rural NC towns can.
