I have had an interesting and great year via the "Kelley Renaissance". I changed jobs, traveled, saw lots of friends and family and found new hobbies to keep myself busy. Check out a short year end wrap up below of how Owen and I spent the year having lots of fun.
We wish you all a great 2007.
12/04-Driving from Columbia, MO to Raleigh, NC I noticed water towers in the distance, some from miles away. Most often they showed the town's name so you would know where you were without the map. I wish I started to take pictures on that trip, but the idea of logging H2O towers was only in its infancy. This blog came almost a year later when I realized I really enjoy taking the back road to find what neat H2O towers exist. Feel free to post a link or story about your town's local H2O tower.

An Early Christmas
Raleigh. NC. Creedmoor Rd.Last weekend Owen and I went to his parents for Christmas since Meredith was home for the holidays. We took Creedmoor Road instead of Highway 1 and saw this new water tower that said something but I can't remember what.
Since I took the picture with my camera phone I can't zoom in to read it.
Owen's parents each got a new bike but neither one knew what the other person was going to get. Kind of weird!

Roller Girl Names
As you saw from my last post I made the Carolina Roller Girl Derby Team.
With that comes a derby name. Check out the current list of taken derby names. So if a name is on this list I can't use it.
Here are some names that folks have come up with. Which one is your favorite? Do you have other ideas?
Nebraskan Assassin
Hillbilly Heroine
Petroleum Kelley (pretty funny)
De La Roll (from De La Soul)
Keller Instinct
Kelley Green
Kel the Funky Homosapien
KELTRON (3030) from Deltron 3030
Black Frances (from the Pixies -- Black Francis)
Miss Reppazent (919) (you represent the 919 area code -- it's a hip hop thang)
Kel from Hell
Hell N Keller
Kel's Bells
Kel's Fells

Renaissance Update
What a weekend! Guess what?
I made the roller derby team. Now I need to practice more and think of a name. Any ideas?
I also had a great talk with Mary Katherine who is interested in water towers and is doing a school project about water tower lovers. Please visit her blog and let her know why you like water towers or why you now see them everywhere or why you also feel compelled to take pictures of them.
With all of this new and exciting news I began thinking about my renaissance. How long should it last? How far have I come? Do I have too many extra curricular activities? How should I be spending my free time?
I looked back at the post I put up about what I wanted to do this summer. I got some of them done. Some I still need to finish. But to focus on the positive side I did:
1) Go to the beach
2) Read
3) Make the roller derby team
4) Learn a new recipe
5) Live in the present moment and not obsess about the past and plan too much for the future (well I try).

Another water tower blog - It's an epidemic
I am not sure if everyone read the comment from Mary Katherine on my blog but she is another water tower aficionado doing some research about water tower lovers for a project at Georgetown. Please visit her blog and comment. This is for academic gain!

Half a water tower - Soon to be whole
Forest City. NC.Just after the post about a water tower being demolished. Here is a picture of a water tower being erected.
Heartbreak - A NC water tower landmark demolished
Kannapolis. NC.
Thanks for the info Matt.
It breaks my heart to see this great NC (and national) landmark in Kannapolis be demolished. The water tower was part of the old Cannon Mills/Pillowtex Plant. It was the tallest water tower east of the Mississippi River. I can remember having towels as a child that said Cannon Mills. I wish I had known before hand - I could have tried to stop the demolition. Check out this video but remember your tissues.
If only Kannapolis had the initiative that Durham had by saving their historical water tower and embracing it.
