So not only did Owen take a picture of the Lumberton water tower in May.
I took a picture of it in June.
And I just got an email from Jeanette and Russ who also took a picture of the same patriotic tower.
CRAZY. Keep the submissions coming!
Trina found a water tower web page all about TX towers.
12/04-Driving from Columbia, MO to Raleigh, NC I noticed water towers in the distance, some from miles away. Most often they showed the town's name so you would know where you were without the map. I wish I started to take pictures on that trip, but the idea of logging H2O towers was only in its infancy. This blog came almost a year later when I realized I really enjoy taking the back road to find what neat H2O towers exist. Feel free to post a link or story about your town's local H2O tower.

What I did today!
Gave Q-Tip a haircut. Thanks to Beverly I was able to cut Q-Tip's hair myself. I left his hair long and curly on top but shaved his back for his "summer cut". He sat very still for me. He likes to be groomed but thinks that he smells his best when he has rolled around in dead bug juice.
Went to a Roller Derby Bout.Owen and I went to the Carolina Rollergirls bout tonight. I was awesome. They sold out. Tryouts are next month. What do you think - my name could be Trash Talker!
Look who is hooked? with a green seam?
Graham and Burlington. NC.Two days with me and Trina is hooked on water tower hunting. On her way to a wedding in Asheville she took these pictures.
Burlington Socks.I tried to find the history of Burlington Socks on-line and am a little confused. I think they have been bought out by Kayser-Roth Corporation from Italy. You can still buy their famous socks with the green seam.

Work Trip #2 - Back to Columbia, SC - June 21-22, 2006
Lumberton. NC.This is my coworker, Trina, in front of the "all america city" - Lumberton - water tower. Hence the pretty colors. You might remember this tower from when Owen tried to take it from the car window while driving.
What is an All-America City?
The All-America City Award is America's original and most prestigious community recognition award. Since 1949, the Award has honored communities of all sizes (cities, towns, counties, neighborhoods and regions) where community members, government, businesses and nonprofit organizations work together to address critical local issues. More than 500 communities have earned this distinguished title and many have earned it more than once.
South of the Border (SOB). SC. I laughed and got so excited when I saw this tower. We stopped at the tourist trap to get some water and go to the bathroom and gawk like tourists. Once there I had to go in the "Hats from around the World" store. See below.

Darlington. SC. Trina did a good job snapping this picture from inside the car. I think this town is known for its big races because the tower says "Too tough to tame". Another fact we learned while on the trip is that Darlington is the only town in SC to have a pay-as-you-throw trash system.
Columbia. SC.Trina and I went to SC for their environmental education teacher training. In the afternoon we went on 2 field trips - a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and water treatment plant. Can you imagine how excited I was to see this water tower welcoming me? I tried to ask our tour guide how much it cost to paint the water tower but I didn't get a figure from him. He did tell me it is hand painted with stencils. They have 24 water towers throughout the town of Columbia. See a water tower picture from my last trip down.

Water towers are filled with Bourbon in MO
Bourbon. MO.Submitted by my mother, JoAnn Dennings, she may move to Bourbon if their water towers are filled with the nice alcohol. Just kidding!
St. Clair. NC.This creative community decided to have one water tower for hot and one for cold. What if one doesn't work? Thanks for your contribution mom.

Contributions from Owen via camera phone
Near Fayetteville. NC.Owen drove I-95 to meet me in SC after my work meetings and before the wedding. He took this picture with his camera phone on the way down. My hobby really is addictive!
South of the Border. SC.Owen thought this might be a water tower but upon further research it is a tourist trap with a restaurant on top. If you have not had the pleasure of going to South of the Border - all you have missed is fireworks, lottery tickets, cheap cigarettes and marriages to first cousins and children.

Peach de Resistance
Our camping experience on this trip went very well. Luckily we had dry but very hot weather. Owen also didn't get rocky mountain spotted fever this time.
We saw lots of wildlife at the Red Top Mountain State Park we stayed at.
Gaffney. SC.We stopped in Gaffney SC on the way home to take a picture of "the" best water tower on the east coast called "Peachoid". This was built in 1981 and was created by an artist to look like a peach. From the south it looks like a peach with the green leaf, but from the north it definitely looks like a butt.
