Does anyone know what the writing on this water tower means? And why is the smiley face upside down?

I was in Durham this week with Sean, our intern, delivering KAB supplies and got lost. I always go the wrong way on I-85. But getting lost had a good point - We ran across this water tower off highway 70-business near the Eno River State Park. It was surrounded by electrical transmission lines.




So we headed back this weekend to take a picture of it and walk the dogs at the State Park.

I took this picture in October. ,However, my boss, who lives near this water tower, said it has been taken down. My pictoral history of water towers will come in handy one day when they are all gone.

Happy Valentines Day

Last night Owen and I celebrated Valentines Day early at the Angus Barn in Raleigh. I had heard so much about this restaurant since moving here 13 years ago. I am not a big steak fan so I didn't have a large desire to go until I found out they had a water tower on their property. I must say they had really good homemade crackers and poppyseed dressing.

Wake County Water Tower #8

Fuquay-Varina. NC.

Today I went to a business networking lunch at the Golden Corral in Fuquay-Varina. I met lots of nice people and promoted a business recycling workshop we are holding in March.

This is another cute town in Wake County. Once neighboring towns, Fuquay and Varina merged in 1963.

Unexpected towers on way to Blue Jay Point Park

On February 4 the Solid Waste Division partnered with Blue Jay Point County Park for a "Solid Waste Open House". On the way to the event I found these water towers. The one that is obscured by the trees says Hasty Utilities but you can't get close enough to it to take a picture. Believe me I tried!





This tower is in the community called Bayleaf, near North Raleigh and Jamie Oughton's parents house. With its close proximity to Falls Lake there were tons of vultures hanging out on it.

Traveling West

Last Monday I had the privilege of driving to Asheville for a Keep America Beautiful Meeting with Benson Kirkman. He was a great water tower spotter.

We encountered our first water tower at the Mocksville exit off I-40. What a beautiful mix of color. The sky slightly cleared for good picture taking.




On our way back to Raleigh, we got off I-40 for a side trip when Benson saw many water towers in one area on the horizon. In the small former textile mill town of Icard, we took the following pictures.

This was one of the 3 old textile mill water towers in the town.










This is the nearby town on Highway 70.










In Burlington we hunted down this water tower thinking it was the Burlington Mills tower below. I love how it fits between the trees of this empty manufacturing facility.







This tower has a great saying on it "Burlington Socks - the green toe seam".
